Personal Development

The RTS Personal Development programme offers our students the opportunity to  extend their learning beyond the walls of the classroom. We strive to ensure that all students are valued as individuals, who are recognised for their talents, fully included within the school community and provided with experiences to enhance their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

A strong pastoral system underpins the RTS Personal Development, which supports students to realise their ambitions. We nurture students to become confident, active and responsible adults who can and want to make a difference to wider society.

Academic Tutor Programme

  • Academic tutor periods provide a positive start to the day with engaging pastoral activities, discussion and events which encourage students' engagement, listening and thinking skills and driving the school's ethos

  • Assemblies are an integral part of the RTS student calendar, providing a platform of learning around safeguarding, wellbeing, awareness of protected characteristics and the wide world

  • KS3 Prep Curriculum is a weekly period after Assembly which comprises of the Theme of the Week which extends the learning from the Assembly programme; offering opportunities for debate, developing knowledge and understanding of the wider world, exploring British Values, EDI and curriculum subjects through a different lens

RTS Houses

Our six RTS Houses were chosen by the students and are differentiated by their House tie and House emblem. Each House has a House Captain and Vice Captain student leadership role, an allocated Y11 Head Teacher Ambassador; and a Student Council representative. Houses have the opportunity to take part in Inter-House competitions and fundraising events.

You can find more details on each House here

Trips and Visits

  • At RTS we provide a range of school visits and off-site activities which enrich, challenge and motivate students, thereby contributing significantly to a truly broad and balanced curriculum.

  • Throughout their RTS journey, students may take part in year group team building and residential trips, subject related trips and events, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, pastoral reward trips and international excursions

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award

The Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme

  • We are honoured to be associated with the Jack Petchey Foundation which offers grants to encourage and reward young people to work hard and reach their full potential.

  • Students are nominated by their peers and teachers for efforts recognised through their endeavours to be a good role model, community volunteering, always helping others. Winners are invited to represent RTS at the annual Jack Petchey Foundation borough event and have the responsibility of choosing how the grant is spent across departments and year groups.

RTS Partnership Members

Our RTS Members are: Harlequins, Haymarket Media, Harrow, Richmond and Uxbridge Colleges (HRUC); and the National Physical Laboratory (NPL). Learn more about each one of these and what they bring to RTS can be found on our Governance page.

Friends of RTS (FoRTS)

We pride ourselves on the excellent communication and co-operation between the school and the parents. This finds particular expression in FoRTS which contributes greatly to the school with its programme of education, social and fundraising activities. All parents are automatically members of FoRTS. The school calendar contains details of the programmes, meetings and events for the year ahead.
