1:1 Device Scheme
Digital technology is an integral part of our lives and an important and useful resource for us all.
1. New Year 7 iPad scheme
New year 7 joiners will be given the option to join the iPad scheme with a 3 year lease for their time in Years 7-9, this will include:
-
3 year insurance cover for Accidental Damage and Theft
-
3 year warranty cover for any faults
The lease can be paid as a one-off upfront cost or over 36 months by monthly direct debit payments.
Please see Section 2. Year 10 &11 in-house management for details on their time in Years 10-11 - with the option to move over to RTS internal in-house repairs. This is a chargeable cover for the remainder of the final two years for the student.
2. Year 10 & 11 in-house management
For the remainder of the student's last two years at RTS in years 10 & 11, you will be given the option to keep the device for the remaining two years at a cost.
For any repairs during this time you can either have the device repaired via RTS (at a cost dependent on the repair) or via an external repair company of your choice.
3. In-Year Admissions
In-Year admissions will be managed on a case by case basis dependent on the year group your child is joining and what iPad stock we have available at that time.
4. End of Year 11
All iPads and any accessories issued are to be returned to the school at the end of Year 11. If you wish to keep the iPad, please contact accounts@rts.richmond.sch.uk to check the availability for owning the device and any associated costs.

Issued Equipment/Responsibility
Students are responsible for returning the iPads and accessories in good condition one day in advance of their final day at the school (RTS).

A deposit will be required from students upon receiving the school-issued iPad and accessories.
The deposit will be refunded once the equipment is returned in acceptable condition.
If the iPad or any accessory is damaged, lost, or not returned by the required deadline, the deposit may be withheld in part or in full to cover repair or replacement costs.
Return Timeline
Equipment must be returned at least one day prior to the student's final day at RTS to ensure proper inspection.
Deposit Forfeiture
Failure to return the iPad or accessories, or returning them in a damaged state, may result in forfeiture of the deposit. This includes:
-
Loss of the iPad or accessories
-
Significant damage requiring repairs
-
Late returns beyond the specified deadline
5. What if my child leaves mid-year?
Years 7-9
If your child leaves during the lease period of the initial 3 years, we are unable to offer the option to purchase the device to keep as it is still under lease with the school. The iPad and accessories will need to be returned to the school.
- If you have paid upfront for the lease, you will receive a refund for the remaining term of the lease only once your device and accessories (keyboard case and iPad charger) have been returned to the school
- If you pay by monthly direct debit, your direct debit will be cancelled only once your device and accessories have been returned to the school
It is the responsibility of the student to return the equipment one day in advance of their last day at RTS.
Years 10 & 11
If your child leaves during the remaining two years and providing all payments and lease release fees are up to date, you will be able to keep the device.
If payments are not up to date, it is the responsibility of the student to return the equipment one dat in advance of their last day at RTS.
6. Who pays for the iPad?
The device is not owned by the school and is on a lease by an external supplier. The payments you are making (whether upfront or in monthly instalments) are for a leased device and insurance policy cost. At the end of Year 9, the 3-year lease will end. As your child moves into Year 10 you will have the option to return the device with no further charges or keep the device for a one-off fee (See section 2). All lease payments need to be completed by the end of Year 9.
7. How do I make an insurance claim?
If the iPad is issued to a student in Year 7, 8 or 9 the device will be insured through the leasing company. Any repairs to the device will need to be directed to the RTS IT department who will register the repair claim on your behalf with the leasing company.
Your device will need to be handed to Reception and you will be asked to fill in a form stating how the device was damaged. The first claim within the 3 year lease is free of charge (Only for the first claim placed), any consecutive claims are charged at £50.00 per claim.
8. What happens when my insurance runs out?
The three year iPad lease and iPad insurance will finish at the end of Year 9. If your lease payments are complete at the end of Year 9, you will have the option (a fee is required) to keep the device. It will be managed by the school system for the remaining two academic years. At the end of Year 11 the device will be yours to keep.
9. iPad Repairs
If you have paid to keep your device, any repairs required during Year 10/11 will be carried out by the RTS onsite engineer. Payment will be required in advance for any parts required to repair your device (all parts required will be at a lower cost to that which an external repair service would charge). Alternatively, you can choose to have the device repaired externally at your own cost.
10. Does the iPad come with a warranty?
Yes the iPad comes with a warranty. This will depend on when a student has joined RTS. The iPad will either be repaired or replaced depending on the issue.
However, if the iPad is damaged due to an accident or misuse, this will not be covered by the warranty. In such cases, the damage would need to be addressed through your insurance policy or in house repairs if the student is in Year 10 or 11.
Scenarios for warranty cover
- Example Year 7 - If a student is in year 7, they will have a 3-year warranty covered by the leasing company. Then 2 additional years of warranty will be covered by RTS until the student reaches the end of year 11.
- Example Year 9 - if a student joins in year 9, they will have a 1-year warranty covered by the leasing company. Then 2 additional years will be added by RTS until the student reaches the end of year 11.
Examples for Warranty and insurance covers
Example for iPad insurance:
-
Insurance Coverage: If the iPad is accidentally dropped and the screen cracks, this type of damage will not be covered by the warranty, but will be processed through your insurance policy.
Example for iPad Warranty
-
Warranty Coverage: If the iPad screen suddenly stops working due to a hardware defect or the iPad no longer charges, the warranty will cover the repair or replacement of the device.
