In June 2014, the Department for Education gave conditional approval for The Richmond upon Thames School Trust to establish a new secondary school, The Richmond upon Thames School (RTS) as part of this campus. In October 2016, the Trust achieved full planning permission for the school's permanent accommodation on Egerton Road and in February 2017, the Funding Agreement was signed, enabling RTS to open in September 2017. 

The Richmond upon Thames School (RTS) is governed by the Richmond upon Thames School Trust. The Academy Trust is a state funded charity and a company limited by guarantee, with no share capital or shareholders (company number 08836866, England and Wales). It was incorporated on 17 December 2012 and is governed by its Memorandum of Association, Articles of Association and Funding Agreement with the Department for Education (copies of these documents are available here). The current members of the Academy Trust are Harlequins, Haymarket Media, Harrow, Richmond and Uxbridge Colleges (HRUC) and National Physical Laboratory (NPL).
